Since 2004, he has participated in national negotiations for the Area Standard Agreement and the Commercial Production Agreement and has provided job steward training to Studio Mechanic Locals throughout the U.S. Before becoming Business Manager of Local 481, Chris was a location sound technician for 20 years and worked on dozens of film, television, and commercial productions and was also an active member of IATSE Local 695. • Class Description - This training has been developed specifically for IATSE Studio Mechanic Locals. In the first half of the training, we review the theory and practice of an effective Job Steward working on a production in Local 484  jurisdiction--from the role, rights, and responsibilities of a Steward to understanding bargaining units, the work that our agreements cover, addressing harassment and safety issues, and more. In the second half of the class, we take a deep dive into the Theatrical & Television Motion Picture Area Standards Agreement (ASA) by reviewing each article. Through discussion and real workplace examples, we will learn to better interpret and enforce the contract. And in addition to highlighting some of the important recent changes to the ASA, we will cover terms and conditions of some of the other major IATSE agreements like the Low Budget Theatrical Agreement and the Commercial Production Agreement.
  • Who should take this class – Anyone interested in becoming a Steward, but I welcome any member to take this course. This class gives each participant a foundational understanding of the contracts, and what the contracts cover.
  • This class is free to Local 484 members, but seating is limited to only 50 attendees. You will receive a confirmation email by November 18th noting your acceptance into the class.”
