Notarization of Hardship Annuity Withdrawals
Updated On: Sep 04, 2020

As you are aware, special distributions are now available from the IATSE Annuity Fund for those who experience losses or expenses due to COVID-19.

Under federal law, participants (and their spouse if married) must have their signature notarized in order for their application to be processed.   We recognize that some participants may be unable to go to a notary at this time but a number of states offer virtual or remote notarization particularly to assist individuals during this time.   (This link may be helpful in that regard: https://www.nationalnotary.org/notary-bulletin/blog/2018/06/remote-notarization-what-you-need-to-know.)  You may hear from some of your members that some participants initially were allowed to obtain withdrawals without notarized signatures, using a declaration instead. However, that was for a limited time.  Given the requirements of federal law, the Fund will not be able to process applications without notarized signatures.  The availability of virtual notarization should be of great assistance to members who need it.
